“I’m Mike Sowers, and this is my testimony of faith.
I grew up, never going to church, never talking about religion, never talking about God. When I came to TU, I knew nothing about Jesus. The first thing that sparked my interest was the Survivor nights by Goalline. These events were super impactful for me because it was the first time I’ve ever heard the gospel or heard any stories about Christianity, or Jesus in general. So from that point on, it was always a thought sitting in the back of my mind. I was starting to question things more and dig deeper into reading, but I was just overall skeptical about things. Then in my junior year, I had a roommate who was a firm believer in Jesus. He pretty much showed me and taught me what it was like to be a Christian…to live like one and help me to understand the whole point of life in general. The more we talked about it, the more I heard and learned, and could feel Jesus really tugging at my heart. My roommate invited me to the Bible studies for the baseball players, which is what I think helped me the most. It was constant learning and fellowship, and I was surrounded by great guys who held the common goal of getting to know Jesus better and living for him. After many of these Bible studies, I began going to church and consistently doing so. I had so many questions and so many thoughts, but by going to church, Goalline events, and Bible studies, almost every single one of my questions was answered by the Bible. Throughout the years, I had watched many people get baptized, and it led me to ask others about baptism and what it really meant. Once I completely understood it and knew, 100%, that my faith and trust were in Jesus, I wanted to give Him all of my life. I had been saved and had fully accepted him in my heart for a couple of months, living it out and growing deeper in my faith, so I knew it was time to testify publicly. I wanted to be baptized, and TU was the place to do it. The ultimate thing that pushed my acceptance of Jesus was seeing and being around other believers. I was around many great mentors who preached it and lived it. Seeing their attitudes, views, and approaches on different things and situations really opened my eyes to the fruits of their lives and allowed me to see how loving, passionate, and supportive they were to everyone. This is something I think everyone should want and strive to have, and it’s something I definitely want to have in my life forever. The one and only way to have it all is by accepting Jesus into your life, repenting of your sins, and allowing Him to give you eternal life in heaven.”
